BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference released its latest set of outdoor track and field weekly awards on Wednesday, as Caleb Newell was named GSC Field Athlete of the Week.
The Pelham, Ala., native earns the honor after earning three top-six finishes at the Troy Doc Anderson Invitational & Multi. Newell most notably broke the school record in the Shot Put with a 15.80m which ranks second in the GSC and 58th in DII.
Newell placed third in the Hammer with a throw of 47.02m, while placing sixth in the Discus with a PR of 39.83m which ranks top-15 in the GSC.
Newell and the Falcons return to action this weekend, as Montevallo competes in the UWA Invitational on Saturday.
