Men's Soccer Moves to No. 10 in National Poll, Remains No. 2 in Region

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team has moved up two spots in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 National Poll to No. 10 and remains at No. 2 in the South Region rankings, Tuesday.

The Falcons debuted in the national rankings last week and climb two spots this week following a 3-0 win over Shorter for the fourth consecutive win.
Montevallo remains at No. 2 in the regional rankings after a 4-0 start to conference play. Last week, the squad jumped from No. 6 to No. 2 in the regional ranking.

"I'm really happy that we are continually getting ranked. It's a validation of what we have done in the offseason and what we are currently doing," said Head Coach Bruce Dietterle. "It shows that this teams needs to work in the offseason to maintain this. When you get to this part of the year it is more about staying healthy and making sure you have fresh legs for whatever battle you've got coming up, otherwise you don't keep those rankings. Once again, we are really excited about being recognized but the message to the team is still 'this is who we were, not who we are', and we are pushing forward to maintain the ranking the entire year because the one at the end of the year is more important than this one."

In the fourth regional rankings of the season, the Falcons are the highest ranked GSC team ahead of Lee (7) and Christian Brothers (8) and AUM (9).
In the national poll Montevallo is the only ranked team from the Gulf South Conference.

Mid-way through the season, the Falcons have already soared ahead of last year's highest region-ranking, 3rd, and highest national-ranking, 16th.

With a 5-0-3 mark mid-way through the year, Montevallo continues conference play on Friday Sept. 30, on the road against Spring Hill.
