MONTEVALLO, Ala. – For the first time in program history, the University of Montevallo wrestling team has earned an individual ranking.
Redshirt Junior Gabe Hixenbaugh is ranked No. 8 in the 133-weight class of NCAA Division-II by theopenmat.com, becoming the first person in the program to be ranked.
Hixenbaugh finds himself at No. 8 in Division-II after a 7-0 start to the season. Additionally, he has recorded three fall wins, two pins and one major decision.
In UM's inaugural home match, Hixenbaugh earned a win by forfeit.
Hixenbaugh and the Falcons will return to the mat on Saturday at the Life University Open in Marietta, Georgia. Life is the No. 2 ranked dual and tournament squad in NAIA. Life features ranked wrestlers at the 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184 and 285 weight classes.
Montevallo entered the open coming off a successful day at the Georgia open last week. UM featured seven top-10 placers in the event.
Derek Hussey leads Montevallo with 11 wins on the year so far.
