Falcons Finish Fifth at Kennesaw State Invitational

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Montevallo track and field teams took home a fifth-place finish at the Kennesaw State Invitational on Friday, April 7. 
 
Head Coach Tommy Barksdale said, "solid meet coming off of Spring Break. A lot of great efforts. We competed hard and it showed. We still have some work to do as we head into the end of the season. I'm proud of the way everyone competed this weekend."

On the men's side of the track, Aidan Golden highlighted the Falcons' day with a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.33. Jacob Cofield and Julian Fore finished fourth and fifth in the 800-meter race with marks of 1:55.77 and 1:56.19, respectively. The 4x400-meter relay team of Cook, Amari Lewis, Matthew Gray and Caleb Kariuki took fourth with a time of 3:20.35 while the same squad finished seventh in the 4x100 (43.71). 
 
In the men's field events, Joshua Pruitt headlined the day with a fourth-place mark of 14.25-meters in the triple jump while taking top-10s in the long jump (sixth) and the high jump (eighth) with marks of 6.86 and 1.78-meters, respectively. Braxton Sanford took home a top-five finish in the pole vault after clearing 4.58-meters. 
 
Courtney Keeler led the women's track squad with a fourth-place time of 4:50.83 in the 1,500-meter race. Reagan Oliver and Morgan Remley finished back-to-back in the 5,000-meter race with times of 20:20.67 (ninth) and 20:39.65 (10th), respectively. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Khaliyah Berry, Hannah Smith, Destiny Benton, and Sydney Goode added a top-five finish with a time of 49.11 seconds (fourth). 
 
In the women's field events, Zauren Burton posted a fourth-place mark of 1.60-meters in the high jump. Leah Dendy continued a solid debut-season with a top-five finish in pole vault after clearing 3.45-meters (fourth). Freshman Katie Moore took home fifth place with a discus throw of 33.80-meters. Nyla Shipman rounded out Montevallo's field events with a fifth-place mark of 11.93-meters in the shot put.
 
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • J'Brelin Cook added a top-10 finish on the track after finishing the 400-meter dash in 49.38 seconds (eighth). 
  • In the 400-meter hurdles, Nate Boleware notched a top-10 time of 1:01.03 (10th).  
  • Hannah Smith notched a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.70 seconds. 
  • Peyton Higgins added a top-10 finish with a javelin throw of 46.50-meters (seventh). 
  • Nautica Swain's javelin throw of 34.88-meters earned the junior sixth in the event. 
  • Kiffin Brun posted an eighth-place mark of 1.45-meters in the high jump.
 
UP NEXT: The Falcons are set to travel just down the road to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invitational on April 14.
