AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Communicators have named Montevallo women's lacrosse's
Ashley Shen a Third Team Academic All-American on the Women's At-Large Academic All-American squads.
Shen, a defender for the Falcons, was named to the Academic All-American squad after succeeding both in the classroom and on the field. The Erin, Ontario, Canada, native has posted a 3.93 grade point average through four years as a Biology major at UM. On the field, Shen saw historic success in 2023 as she was named the program's first Gulf South Conference Defender of the Year and Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region selection. Additionally, she was named to the All-GSC First Team after leading the league in ground balls, ground balls per game, caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game. Shen further cemented her legacy in 2023 as she finished as the NCAA Division II Statistical Champion in caused turnovers per game at 3.53.
Shen is the first member of the Montevallo women's lacrosse program to be named an Academic All-American and is the fifth Montevallo student-athlete to earn the honor this academic year.
Prior to this honor, Shen was named to the CSC Academic All-District squad, Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team, and honor roll.
The Division II at-large teams honored 50 student-athletes, with all 15 members of the first team earning 4.00 GPA's either as undergraduate or graduate students. A total of 29 of the 50 members had 4.00 GPA's.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Division II Academic All-America® program.
