MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team will make a 75-mile road trip to Montgomery, Alabama for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Auburn University Montgomery, Jan. 13.
Montevallo and AUM will tip-off for the 15
th time since 2016 at 4 p.m., Saturday, in the lone contest of the weekend.
The Falcons enter the in-state rivalry matchup fresh off its first road win of the year, 84-87, at Valdosta State on Monday. AUM will hit the court following a win over Valdosta as well, 88-76. The Warhawks' Monday matchup with West Florida was postponed.

GAME NOTES
- Montevallo enters its third-straight road game fresh off its first road win of the season, last time out against Valdosta State, 94-87.
- The Falcons are looking for its second-consecutive win for the second time this year but haven't won back-to-back road outings since defeating Shorter twice in Rome, Georgia on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, 2021
- Montevallo turned in its most efficient offensive outing of the season against Valdosta State as the team shot 54.5 percent from the field and tallied 94 points.
- The Falcons remain one of the fastest-paced teams in Division II with an average of 14.6 fastbreak points per game, which ranks 35th nationally and second in the league.
- Freshman Brandon Fussell scored a career-high 30 points against Valdosta State for the third 30-plus point game scored by a Falcon this season.
So Far This Season…
Montevallo (5-10, 4-7 GSC) continues its January slate with a 2-2 record to open the new year. Montevallo earned its first road win of the year on Monday, 94-87, over Valdosta State in one of the best offensive outings of the year.
The Falcons face AUM in its lone game of the weekend and its third straight road contest.
Defense has been a struggle for the Falcons this season, but the unit had its best outing recently against Christian Brothers, holding the Bucs ton 68 points. However, UM has allowed over 80 in each of its last two games.
UM's offense has been inconsistent this season but remains one of the best in the Gulf South Conference at 82.3 points per game –third in the league. Last time out against VSU, Montevallo scored 94 points, marking the sixth 90-plus point game of the year. Additionally, UM's 54.5 field-goal percentage against Blazers was a season-best.
Montevallo continues to be one of the better three-point shooting teams across the Gulf South with 10.2 three-pointers made per game. The Falcons have made nine or more threes in nine of 15 games so far.
UM's fast-paced style of play has led to opponent turnovers and fastbreak points in abundance this season. as well. The Falcons are averaging 14.2 fastbreak points per game, ranking second in the GSC and 35
th in Division II, while also forcing 15.7 turnovers per game which is third in the league.
Scouting AUM:
AUM is 6-8 overall and 3-7 in conference play entering the weekend. The Warhawks host the Falcons on Saturday having won three of its last four games and with a 3-3 mark at home on the year.
The Warhawks rank 10
th in the GSC in scoring offense, 73.9 points per game, and ninth in scoring defense, 76.4 points per game.
AUM is allowing the most free-throw opportunities to its opponents this season of any GSC team and are being outscored 282-159 from the charity stripe this year.
AUM's defense leads the GSC in turnovers forced at 17.1 per game and the Warhawks have scored 19.1 points-off-turnovers.
The Warhawks enter on a one-game win streak after beating Valdosta State, 88-76, Jan. 6.
Series History Against AUM:
Saturday's matchup marks the 16th meeting between Montevallo and AUM since 2016, and the 15th since AUM joined the GSC and Montevallo rejoined the conference for the 2017-18 season.
Montevallo leads the series 9-5 but is just 3-5 on the road in Montgomery. UM's lost last time out on the road, 101-95 on Feb. 2023. The last road win for the Falcons was on Jan. 29, 2021, 92-76.
Player Highlights Montevallo:

Jaylen Curry has established himself as Montevallo's leading scorer with 16.2 points per game. The sophomore forward who joined the Falcons from Wallace State Community College this season, has scored in double-figures 11 times this season, including a career-high 32 against Lee. Curry's 32-point outing is the most points a Falcon has scored this season.
Curry is one of four Falcons averaging in double-figures this season, ahead of fellow transfers Cam Glover (15.1 ppg) and
Jack Henderson (10.9 ppg), along with 10.3 points per game from
Brandon Fussell.
With a double-double last time out and a season-high 11 boards, Henderson has emerged as Montevallo's leading rebounder at 4.9 per game.
Glover, a junior transfer from Birmingham-Southern, is UM's leading sharpshooter with 2.7 three-pointers made per game. The Trussville, Alabama native has scored in double-figures a team-high 13 times this year, including a season-high 28 against Shorter. He is currently in second in the GSC in three-pointers made at 40. Last time out he totaled 24 points and four three-pointers, including 18 points in the second half.
Glover also leads UM with 3.2 assists per game.

AUM features a quartet of players scoring in double-figures per game, led by Jalen Gaston with 14.6 per game.
Malachi Rhodes leads AUM on the boards and is one of top-ten rebounders in the GSC with 6.7 per game.
In addition, Gaston is second in the GSC with a 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio on the year as he is averaging 3.1 assists per game.
