BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has released its 2024 Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll as well as its 2024 WLAX Newcomer Watchlist.

In the preseason poll, the Falcons enter the season as the fifth ranked team in the league after a season that saw the Falcons go 7-9 overall with a 2-4 mark against conference opponents during the 2023 campaign.
Montevallo also saw a trio of incoming athletes named to the 2024 Newcomer Watchlist with freshman duo
Ellery Shearer and
Ashlei Piazza as well as junior transfer
Madison Sobolewski listed. Shearer, one of the Falcons' incoming attacker, comes by way of Johns Creek High School where she was an All-County Honorable Mention in 2021 after leading the team in goals and points for the second-straight season. Piazza, a graduate of Desert Vista High School, comes to Montevallo, Ala. as the Falcons' newest edition to the goalkeeping corps following an All-State goalie campaign in 2022 and leading Desert Vista to its first state championship in 2021. Sobolewski transfers to the Falcons' program from the University of Charleston (W.V.) as defender with 10 career goals and two assists under her belt while grabbing 39 ground balls and causing 40 turnovers in two seasons as a Golden Eagle. In her two seasons in West Virginia, Sobolewski was named Academic All-MEC in 2022 and 2023.
Montevallo women's lacrosse kicks of the 2024 season on Saturday, Feb. 3 when Embry-Riddle comes to town for an 11 a.m. matchup.
