Double-Doubles By Colton Thompson and Nikol Antova Help Falcons to Victory Over Union

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team emerged victorious in four sets against Union on Friday, Oct. 11. The Falcons move to 4-3 in GSC play and pick up their second away win of the season.

GAME NOTES
  • As a team, the Falcons had a season-high hitting percentage at .284.
  • Nikol Antova recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs. Antova added four solo blocks, two aces and two assists.
  • Colton Thompson had her second double-double of the season with 24 assists and 13 digs.
  • Brooklyn Hudson had her third match this season with double-digit kills (10).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1
  • UM opened the match with three straight points including two blocks and a kill by Claire Hayes.
  • Up 5-4, Montevallo went on a 5-1 run highlighted by kills by Danielle Greene and Aliyah Thompson. Blakely Robbins picked up two assists.
  • The Falcons went on a 6-2 run with kills by Hayes, Tyrrell, Greene and Antova. Colton Thompson assisted on three terminations.
  • Union got hot as they took a 7-1 run to shorten the Montevallo lead to 21-18.
  • Brooklyn Hudson converted on two kills to get the Falcons to set point.
  • UM won the set on a Bulldog attack error.
  • Colton Thompson had nine assists in the set.
 
Set 2
  • Union jumped out to a 4-2 lead with two Falcons service errors and two kills.
  • Montevallo tied it at 5-5 with a block by Aliyah Thompson and a kill by Hudson.
  • The Falcons went on a massive 10-1 run including four kills, three aces and three Bulldog errors.
  • UM was up 21-12 as Union made a late run with a 5-0 run.
  • Montevallo ended the set by winning the last four out of five points. Nikol Antova had a kill on top of three UU errors.
  • The Falcons only committed one error in the set.
 
Set 3
  • Down 5-6, Montevallo took the lead with four straight points with kills from Greene and Tyrrell. Grace Petro served up two aces in the short run.
  • The Bulldogs retaliated with a 5-0 run to take the lead back.
  • Tied 15-15, UM took the next four points highlighted by a kill by Antova, assisted by C. Thompson and a kill by Greene, assisted by Robbins.
  • Union tied it up late at 21-21.
  • Tied at 24-24, UU won the third set with a kill and a solo block.
 
Set 4
  • After Union opened the set with a 4-2 lead, Montevallo won the next five consecutive points with an ace by Ava Wind, a kill by Hudson and a kill and block by Antova.
  • Montevallo went on a 6-1 run as they heated up with six kills all assisted by Blakely Robbins. In the run, Eliza Tyrrell connected with Robbins on three kills.
  • The Falcons went on to take the final set with a dominating .452 hitting percentage, 16 kills and only two errors.
