GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team has been picked to finish 10
th in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll as announced by the league on Thursday, Oct. 24.
In Conference Carolinas' Preseason "Wrestlers to Watch", the league recognized
Jake Chisolm,
Colt Brown and
Carson Freeman.
Chisolm, a Sophomore transfer from Campbell University, comes back to Alabama where he won a pair of state championships while wrestling at Oxford High School. In the 2021-22 season with the Fighting Camels, Chisolm went 7-6 with a 2-0 dual record. He tallied two falls, a tech fall and a major decision. For the Falcons, Chisolm will wrestle in the 165-weight class.
Brown returns to Montevallo for his Sophomore season. In his Freshman campaign, he totaled a 22-12 record and a 5-3 dual mark. Brown earned four wins by major decision, 10 by tech fall and one by fall. He had the first home win in program history on Nov. 15 where he won with a 19-3 tech fall. Brown finished fifth at the Super Region II tournament and earned Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month in November.
Freeman returns for his second season as a Falcon after posting an 18-14 record while going 10-4 in duals. He earned six tech falls, three major decisions and three wins by fall. Freeman had the third most wins on the team and the third most tech falls. The Sophomore from Alabaster, Alabama earned his first career win at the Patriot Open where he won by tech fall 25-5.
In addition to the watch list, Conference Carolinas announced its Preseason Poll with the Falcons picked 10
th out of 15 with 97 total points. Last season, Montevallo was picked 12
th.
Montevallo will open up the 2024-25 season on Nov. 2 at the Pepsi Open.
