Career-High's from Robbins, Hayes and Antova Not Enough Against Lee

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team fell to the Lee Flames on Friday, Oct. 25 despite a career-high's by Blakeley Robbins, Nikol Antova and Claire Hayes.

GAME NOTES
  • Blakeley Robbins had a career-high 39 assists in the match. Robbins added six digs, an ace and a dump off kill.
  • Nikol Antova had 17 kills on a .424 hit percentage. Antova had a career-high three aces and totaled nine digs.
  • Claire Hayes had a career-high of 13 kills against the Flames. Hayes led the Falcons with a .462 hitting percentage.
  • Danielle Greene had her eighth match this season with eight or more total blocks.
  • Montevallo's loss to Lee snaps an eight-match win streak.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1
  • The Falcons opened the match with three points off three kills by Brooklyn Hudson, Claire Hayes and Nikol Antova.
  • While down 6-5, Lee took the lead with a 4-1 run including three Falcons errors.
  • Montevallo tied the set at 12-12 with a 4-1 run of their own. Montevallo had kills from Antova and Aliyah Thompson. Lee had two service error in the run.
  • After Lee took three straight points to make it 17-14 advantage Flames, UM took the next three consecutive points with two Lee errors and a Maggie McColley kill.
  • Lee won the set by taking the final four out of five points including three kills, an ace and a Falcon error.
 
Set 2
  • After falling in the first set, Montevallo came out and wont he first six points of the set highlighted by three Falcon blocks and kills by Greene and Antova.
  • The next five kills for the Falcons came on assists by Blakeley Robbins.
  • After an ace by Grace Petro, Lee got hot from the floor with a 5-1 run including five kills.
  • Nikol Antova stopped the Flame run with a kill, then served up an ace the point after.
  • With the Falcons up 23-18, Lee went on a 4-1 run to shorten the Montevallo lead.
  • A kill by Antova, assisted by Robbins won the set for the Falcons.
  • Blakeley Robbins was on fire with 13 assists in the set.
 
Set 3
  • Lee opened with a 3-0. Montevallo responded with a 3-0 run of their own with kills by McColley and Antova.
  • The Flames took the next six consecutive points with three kills, two aces and one Falcon miscue.
  • After a kill by Aliyah Thompson and an ace Ava Wind, Lee took the next three points on three kills.
  • Lee extended their lead to 19-11.
  • Montevallo mounted a nine-point comeback started by a kill from Aliyah Thompson. After two errors on Lee, Claire Hayes connected with Blakeley Robbins for a kill. The Flames committed another attack error followed up by a kill from Hayes and Eliza Tyrrell. A fourth Lee error and a third kill by Hayes in run gave the Falcons the lead.
  • The run was stopped by two consecutive attack errors.
  • The Flames took the set on a 4-1 run with three Falcons errors.
 
Set 4
  • Lee opened the fourth set with two kills, an ace and a block.
  • Kills by Tyrrell, Hayes and Robbins brought Montevallo back into the set.
  • After a block combined by Danielle Green and Eliza Tyrrell, Lee went on a 5-1 run with three UM errors and two kills.
  • Katie Wilkerson got the next two points for UM with two kills, assisted by Robbins.
  • The Flames took the next six out of seven points.
  • Montevallo would not quit by winning the next four out five points with kills by Hayes and Greene and a block combined by Hudson and Greene.
  • After a kill by Lee, UM went on a 6-0 run highlighted by kills from Antova, Greene and Hudson. Greene had two blocks in the run and Antova contributed an ace.
  • The Flames took the final two points to close out the Falcons.
 
UP NEXT
The Falcons will turn their attention to Saturday, Oct. 26 as they take on the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans at 2 p.m. CT inside Central State Bank Arena.
