HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Tied at 6-6, the Blazers went on a 7-2 run with two kills, two aces and three Falcon errors.
- Out of a timeout, UM went on a 6-1 run started by a kill from Claire Hayes, three kills from Nikol Antova and a dump off kill by Blakeley Robbins to tie the set at 14-14.
- Valdosta State killed the rally with three straight points.
- While down 18-22, Montevallo came back by winning the next four consecutive points including a kill from Claire Hayes and Aliyah Thompson.
- Both teams exchanged points till 25-24 when the Falcons took the lead off a Blazer attack error.
- Valdosta swung the next two points their way with a service error by UM and an ace.
- Tied 27-27, VSU won the set off a UM service error and an ace.
- The Falcons had 18 kills and a higher hitting percentage despite losing the set.
Set 2
- UM opened the second set with kills from Katie Wilkerson and Claire Hayes. Both assisted by Robbins.
- Montevallo went on a 5-0 run including kills by Aliyah Thompson, Danielle Greene and Brooklyn Hudson. Colton Thompson contributed an ace in the run.
- Kills by Greene and Wilkerson forced a VSU timeout. Montevallo was staked to a 12-6 lead.
- After kills by Hudson and Wilkerson, Valdosta State went on an 11-2 run to take the lead.
- The Blazers closed out UM and completed the comeback with a 6-3 run.
- For the second consecutive set, UM had more kills and a higher hitting percentage than VSU.
Set 3
- Montevallo took the early lead in the set with after an attack error by VSU and a Katie Wilkerson kill set up by Blakeley Robbins.
- VSU took the lead back with a 4-1 run.
- The Falcons tied the set with kills by Wilkerson and Hudson, an ace by Ava Wind tied the set at 12-12.
- At 14-14, the Blazers took a 6-1 run with three kills, an ace and two Falcon miscues.
- Montevallo stayed alive with two kills by Nikol Antova and two errors on VSU.
- VSU ended the set on a 4-1 run.
