Falcons Win in an Exciting Five Setter Against Christian Brothers Behind Strong Performances By Greene and Wind

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team secures their 10th win of the season in an exciting five setter against Christian Brothers on Friday, Nov. 8 in Central State Bank Arena.

GAME NOTES
  • Danielle Greene led the Falcons with 12 kills on a .450 hitting percentage and led all players in the match with seven total blocks. Greene now has a 100/100 season (100 or more kills and blocks).
  • Montevallo tied a season-high of 55 assists (Robbins 25, Duncan 12, C. Thompson 11).
  • Ava Wind had the most digs out of any player in the match with 27. Wind now has over 400 digs for the season.
  • UM picks up their 10th win of the season.

Set 2
  • CBU came out with a 5-2 run including three UM miscues.
  • After an ace by Claire Hayes, the Buccaneers went on a 6-1 run. Ella Schumacher connected with Sarah Allyn Thornell for three kills.
  • At 18-13, CBU finished off the Falcons with a 7-3 run.
  • Montevallo had their lowest hitting percentage of the match at -.024. Christian Brothers hit .323, their highest in a set in the match.
 
Set 3
  • Down 7-6, Montevallo won the next four consecutive points with two kills by Greene, a combined block by Robbins and Greene. Robbins served up an ace for the final point of the run.
  • The Falcons went on another 4-0 run with kills by Claire Hayes and Aliyah Thompson, a block by A. Thompson and Hayes. UM ended the run with another ace, this time by Eliza Tyrrell.
  • Down 17-11, CBU went on a 9-2 run with steal the lead from Montevallo.
  • The Buccaneers committed three consecutive errors to give UM the lead.
  • Christian Brothers flipped the script again by taking the final six out of seven points to take the set.
 
Set 4
  • Montevallo opened up the fourth set with a 4-1 run with kills by Danielle Greene and Brooklyn Hudson. CBU committed two errors.
  • CBU fought back to take a 6-5 lead with three kills and to UM errors.
  • Montevallo exploded for a 6-1 run with three straight kills by Tyrrell, Wilkerson and Hayes. The Buccaneers had three consecutive attack errors after.
  • UM won the next five out of six points with a kill by Katie Wilkerson, two aces by Blakeley Robbins and two CBU mistakes.
  • The Falcons kept their foot on the gas as Hudson and Hayes connected with Robbins for two kills, then Ava Wind served two aces to extend the UM lead to 19-10.
  • Um secured the final six points of the set with three Buccaneer errors, a kill by Tyrrell, a kill by A. Thompson and an ace by C. Thompson.
 
Set 5
  • In the do-or-die set, Christian Brothers took the early 4-2 lead.
  • Two kills by Eliza Tyrrell tied the set up.
  • CBU took the next three out of four points to take a 7-5 lead.
  • Kills by Aliyah Thompson and Danielle Greene brought the Falcons within one. Colton Thompson picked up both assists.
  • After two CBU points, UM won the next six consecutive points including two kills by Brooklyn Hudson, two blocks by Danielle Greene and two CBU errors.
  • The Bucs tied the set at 13-13 by winning the next three points.
  • A kill by Hudson gave the Falcons the lead, then a block by Hayes and Hudson won the match for Montevallo.
 
UP NEXT
Montevallo will have a quick turn around as they take on Union on Saturday, Nov. 9. Senior Day festivities start at 1:00 p.m. CT.
