INDIANAPOLIS, In. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team completes their first day of action at the Midwest Classic on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Colt Brown and
Jake Chisolm advanced to day two of the Midwest Classic while six different Falcons picked up a win in the tough brackets across the 10 different weight classes.
Colt Brown was impressive as he went 2-1 on the day including a dominating 21-3 tech fall over Southwest Minnesota State's Preston Xayachak in 6:07. Brown was victorious over Maryville's Sam Shafer in a 7-6 decision. The sophomore from Lakeland, Florida moves to 8-0 in bouts ending in decisions and 2-1 in tech falls. Brown is 12-4 on the season.
Jake Chisolm was just as impressive as he went 2-1 as well. Chisolm started his day with a win over No. 20 Anthony Erickson by an 8-7 decision. In his next bout, Chisolm went toe-to-toe with the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the NWCA rankings, David Hunsberger of Lander. Hunsberger won 5-3, but Chisolm held his own and made Hunsberger earn the victory as he only earned one take down on Chisolm. He would end his day with a 5-2 decision win over Chadron State's Taytgen Gillette. The sophomore from Oxford, Alabama is now 12-5 on the season and moves to 4-4 in bouts ending in decision.

- Colt Brown picked up victories over Southwest Minnesota State's Preston Xayachak and Maryville's Sam Shafer. Brown won by a 21-3 tech fall and a 7-6 decision. Brown advances to day two.
- Chad Strickland picked up a win over Emmanuel's Isiah Davis with a 7-3 decision. This is Strickland's 11th victory of the season.
- Nick Dempsey earned his 15th win of the season in a 17-1 tech fall over Ouachita Baptist's Caleb Andrews. Dempsey has three tech fall wins this season.
- Carson Freeman won twice today and earned his 15th and 16th wins of the season. Freeman defeated Newberry's Dennis Virelli by a 20-5 tech fall and Emmanuel's Isaiah Castro by a 5-1 decision. Freeman is 5-0 in tech falls this season.
- Jake Chisolm advances to day two alongside Colt Brown as he picked up his first ranked win of the season over No. 20 Anthony Erickson by an 8-7 decision and he also defeated Taytgen Gillette of Chadron State in a 5-2 decision.
- Baxter Hoffman won his 12th bout of the season over Limestone's Peyton Miles in an 8-1 decision.
