MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team is ready for their second home midweek in a row as they welcome in the Miles College Golden Bears for a double-header on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off a week where they went 4-1 against Georgia Southwestern and Christian Brothers. Montevallo swept the Buccaneers in three games while they scored eight runs in all of them.

About Montevallo
Hitting
The Falcons are coming off a week where they almost averaged seven runs a game.
Sydnee Reaves and
Kendall Channell are as hot as they come as Reaves went 8 for 15 with four home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored. Reaves set the Montevallo Softball record for homers in a game (3) and total base in a game (13). Channell launched three homers with one being a walk-off two-run shot that lifted the Falcons over the Buccaneers in game one. Kendall also had seven RBI while she scored three runs.
With Channell and Reaves behind her,
Ariana Pinder continues to be a perfect lead-off hitter to set the table to for the rest of the Falcon lineup. Pinder leads the Falcons with a .509 on base percentage and she leads Montevallo with a .447 batting average which is also 11
th in the Gulf South Conference. Ariana had two homers and five RBI last week.
Not only did the top of the Falcons order catch fire last week,
Molly Pendley and
Lily Stone both knocked their first homers of the season while they combined for nine runs and five RBI.
Pitching
The pitching staff for the Falcons stepped up when they needed to this weekend with all hands on deck. Um pitchers averaged four runs a game while they only allowed 11 walks in five games.
Taylor Lloyd was outstanding as she came away with a complete game shutout against Georgia Southwestern while she tied a season and career-high of 10 strikeouts. Lloyd is currently third in the GSC with 50 strikeouts, second with 48 innings pitched and is tied for fifth with four wins.
Rachel Whiddon earned her first victory of the season and had her best start in the purple and gold as she tossed six innings and struck out two in game two against Christian Brothers.
Mya Young was busy this week as appeared in four games this week. Mya accumulated eight innings, gave up only four earned runs, only walked two batters and struck out five.
Scouting Miles
The Golden Bears come into the series against Montevallo with a 3-3 record while most recently dropping both games against GSC foes Union University on Feb. 21.
Miles is led by Shalayiah Waid who is batting .500 on the season in 10 at bats with an OPS of 1.483. The Golden Bears have no home runs on the season but they have only been thrown out three times when stealing bases out of 23 attempts.
Desalynn Nesbitt leads Miles in the circle as she has 13 innings pitched on the season with a 3.23 ERA. Shakayla Terry leads the Golden Bears in strikeouts as she has 15 in 11 innings pitched.
The Falcons are 4-0 in their short history against Miles and have won the most recent meeting 12-0 on Feb. 23 of 2021.
