MONTEVALLO, Ala – The University of Montevallo wrestling team is set for their first NCAA DII Regional appearance in program history on Saturday, Mar. 2 at the NCAA Super Region II Championships in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Montevallo enters regionals with three ranked wrestlers in the final Super Region II rankings. Redshirt Junior Gabe Hixenbaugh leads the Falcons in the inaugural season at No. 1 in the 133-weight class in the Super Region II rankings, TheOpenMat.com rankings and the National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings. Derek Hussey is ranked sixth at 165 and
Aiden Knight is fifth in the 174 weight class.
Currently, the Falcons are ranked No. 22 as a team by TheOpenMat.com and No. 23 by the NWCA.
In the regional tournament, the top three finishers in each weight class will advance to the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship, with the top six placing.

UM has not wrestled since Feb. 6 when they took on No. 2 Lander and Emmanuel. The Falcons were defeated by both schools 48-3 and 30-15 respectively. Hixenbaugh won both his bouts while he took down Lander's No. 8 Elijah Lusk by a 4-2 decision to move to 24-0 this season.
