MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team is ready to compete in the UAH Charger Chillout hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Feb. 8 through Feb. 9 in Albertville, Ala.
Montevallo will open up the Charger Chillout on Feb. 8 as they take on Young Harris at 3:00 p.m. and then will finish day one against Trevecca Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. On day two, Montevallo will go against Kentucky Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m. and will finish the chillout against Lincoln Memorial at 3:30 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off their first win of the season as they defeated Eckerd College 5-3. UM exploded for four runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-RBI double off the bat of
Madison Fargo.
Ariana Pinder pitched beautifully through 5.2 as she kept the Triton offense quiet until she gave way to the bullpen.
Rachel Whiddon earned her first save as a Falcon as she pitched a scoreless seventh.

About Montevallo
Hitting
Ariana Pinder has started off her 2024 campaign with a hit in all four games played this weekend. Her five hits in the first weekend are the most on the Falcon team and 12
th in the Gulf South Conference. Pinder also had one RBI and one stolen base. Freshman
Madison Fargo had a great start to her collegiate career as she batted .429 on the weekend with a double, two RBI and was walked twice. Fargo leads the Falcons with an OPS of 1.127, a slugging percentage of .571 and an on base percentage of .556.
Montevallo is 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts so far this season while
Bentlee Stiner is 2 for 2. UM is currently tied for sixth in the GSC in doubles while they are one of four teams in the conference with a perfect stolen base percentage.
Pitching
Rachel Whiddon had three relief appearances for Montevallo as she totaled 5.2 innings pitched and only allowed opponents to bat .222 against her. Whiddon picked up the save against Eckerd while she struck out two on the weekend.
In her first start of the season,
Taylor Lloyd was lights out against No. 10 Tampa as she went 6.1 innings with six strikeouts while she scattered seven hits. Lloyd has 10 strikeouts on the season which leads the Falcons and she is fifth in the conference. She is one of five pitchers with 10 or more punch outs in the GSC.
Scouting Young Harris
The Young Harris Mountain Lions come into their match up with the Falcons 2-1 on the 2024 season. YHC defeated GSC foe Shorter twice in their opening weekend.
Hannah Carey is one of the hottest hitters in the Peach Belt Conference as she is batting .600 to start the season with two home runs and six RBI. As a team, Young Harris is batting .340 with 32 hits, 14 extra base hits, 23 RBI and are a perfect 4 for 4 on the base paths.
In two appearances, Gracie Hughes has a .84 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched while she has struck out four. YHC has a team ERA of 3.85 and are holding opponents to a .267 batting average.
Scouting Trevecca Nazarene
The Trojans will be playing their first game of the 2024 season against Montevallo while they are coming off a 2023 season where they went 34-16. TNU was in the final four of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference where they went 2-2.
Trevecca Nazarene is returning their top-two hitters from last season, Kendall Andrews and Anna Bennett, who both batted over .400 and combined for 124 hits. As a team, the Trojans batted .303 with 393 hits, 19 homers, 210 RBI, a slugging percentage of .423 and stole 124 bases at a 86 percent clip.
TNU returns their top arm, Ashlan Sensing, who had a dominant year in 2023 as she pitched to a 18-8 record with an ERA of 1.58 and a WHIP of .77 while she fanned 187 batters in 177 innings pitched. Trevecca returns every arm who threw last season as they had the second-best combined ERA in the GMAC at 1.88.
Scouting Kentucky Wesleyan
The Panthers will open up their 2024 season against the Falcons after last season where they posted a record of 10-43. KWC will return heir top hitter from last year, Megan Matheis, who batted .451 in 164 at bats with a team leading seven home runs and 41 RBI.
Kentucky Wesleyan batted .277 last season and they combined for 16 homers and 373 hits. They were dangerous on the base paths as they stole 33 out of 37 bases.
The pitching staff will look to take a step forward as they posted an ERA of 6.97.
Scouting Lincoln Memorial
Lincoln Memorial is coming off a season where they made the NCAA Regionals. The Railsplitters are 1-3 early-on in the 2024 season and have allowed seven or more runs in all three of their losses.
Sophomore's Hanna Bogoski and Reese Vivrette are both batting .445 on the season in 11 at bats. The Railsplitters don't have any long balls on the season but they are batting .260 as a team and have the fifth most walks in the South Atlantic Conference with 15.
Margot van Eijl leads LMU with 10.2 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts. Katie Fultz earned the only win for the Railsplitters and has pitched the only complete game on the Lincoln Memorial staff. As a team, LMU has a 4.75 ERA, has an opponent batting average of .322 and has a WHIP of 1.86.
