MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo's men's and women's track and field teams finish the first day of the Falcon Classic on Friday, Mar. 15.
The Falcons totaled seven personal bests in the first day of the annual home meet.
Elizabeth Hayhurst won the javelin throw and set a personal best with a distance of 40.41 meters. Montevallo's
Katlynn Brothers and
Libby Wright also set PR's in the javelin with throws of 34.42 meters and 34.23 meters. On the men's side,
Zane Weeks set a personal record with a throw of 52.65 meters.
Freshman
Will Stroud won the decathlon high jump as he cleared a height of 1.83 meters. Stroud would also take third in the decathlon 400-meter with a time of 54.88 and second in the shot put with a throw of 9.73 meters.
Shawn Henry II had a podium finish for Montevallo in the long jump with a second-place jump of 6.89 meters.
Walter Womack and
Ja'lon Benson set PR's in the long jump with distances of 6.39 meters and 6.48 meters.
Bill Archer took first place in the 10,000-meter with a time of 33:10.07. Archer's time is also a personal best. Brooke Ramsey placed in fifth in the women's 10k with a time of 44:27.91. In the last event of the day,
Emily Wolf set a personal record in the discus throw with a distance of 41.86 meters.
The Falcons will be back bright and early Saturday, Mar. 15 for day two of the Falcons Classic and Multi.
