Falcons Head to Rocket City to Take on Alabama-Huntsville

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team heads to the Rocket City to take on the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in a three-game series on Saturday, Mar. 23 and Sunday, Mar. 24 in Huntsville, Ala.
 
Last Time Out
Montevallo is coming off a two-game set where they lost both games against No. 1 North Georgia on Tuesday, Mar. 19. The Falcons played the Nighthawks tight as they were within two runs in the first game through the third inning and, in game two, a 0-0 pitchers duel until the fifth inning where North Georgia picked up their second and final hit of the game on a home run.

About Montevallo
Hitting
The Falcons are looking to snap a four-game losing skid as they head up north to Huntsville. Montevallo has been held to four runs in the last five games as they have faced two of the best pitching staffs in the country. Lily Stone had a hit in each game against North Georgia as she now has the fifth most hits on the team with 19.
 
Ansley Hudson has nine hits in the last 11 games for the Falcons. Hudson is 10-11 in steal attempts this season and is one of 18 players with 10 or more stolen bases in the GSC. Kendall Channell hit her fourth home run of the season on Tuesday and now has 15 RBI on the season. Channell is batting .313 with 26 hits, four doubles and an OPS of .906.
 
As a team, the Falcons have the sixth most doubles in the conference with 43, have drawn the fourth most walks in the GSC with 98 and have stolen the fourth most bags in the league this season with 52 successful attempts.
 
Pitching
UM has received great outings from all four pitchers on the roster within the past week. The pitching staff of Taylor Lloyd, Mya Young, Rachel Whiddon and Ariana Pinder currently holds an ERA of 4.22 which is the third lowest earned run average in program history and has the third lowest opposing batting average in program history at .290.
 
Taylor Lloyd is 13 innings away from her second season with over 100 innings pitched and is currently tied for second in the Gulf South with 87 innings pitched on the season. Lloyd has already surpassed her strikeout total from last year and she has the seventh most in the GSC with 77. She has the ninth lowest batting average against in the conference at .264.
 
Mya Young has the most wins in her career as she is 4-3 on the season. Young turned in her fifth scoreless outing of the season last week against No. 8 Mississippi College which lowered her ERA to 4.91.
 
Scouting Alabama Huntsville
The Chargers are coming into this weekend with a 20-9 overall record and a 6-6 GSC record. They most recently disposed of Miles College in a double-header on Wednesday, Mar. 20, 7-0 and 16-1. In their latest Gulf South Conference series, they dropped two games against Valdosta State. The Blazers defeated UAH 20-9 in game one and they split the next day where UAH won 8-3 but Valdosta took the rubber match 9-3.
 
The Chargers have the second highest batting average in the GSC at .345 are led by one of the top hitters in the conference, Alexa Douthitt. Douthitt has a .461 average with 41 hits, 10 homers and 37 RBI. Lawren Hayes follows up with a .448 batting average and the most hits on the team with 47. As a team, they have 36 home runs on the year with 183 RBI while they slug at a .552 clip.
 
Pitching wise, they have a staff ERA of 3.28 and are led by Katie Bracken. Bracken is the horse of the UAH staff and has an ERA of 3.04. She is one of the best strikeout artists in the conference as she is third with 91 on the season. Bracken fools hitters with the most strikeouts looking this season in the GSC with 30.
 
While Alabama-Huntsville leads the all-time series against the Falcons, Montevallo is 3-2 when they are the visiting team against the Chargers. UAH took the regular season series last year 2-1 but the Falcons have won the most recent game 8-7.
