MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team is set for their third Gulf South Conference series of the season as they welcome in the West Georgia Wolves on Saturday, Mar. 9 and Sunday, Mar. 10.
Last Time Out
Montevallo is coming off a series against Delta State where they took two out of three games from the Lady Statesmen. The Falcons dropped the first game of the series on Friday, 8-11 but bounced back on Saturday and took both games by scores of 17-8 and 10-6.
Molly Pendley was on fire this weekend as she went 7-for-11 with two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, two doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored.

Hitting
The Falcon offense hit their stride last week as they averaged 11 runs a game during their five games.
Sydnee Reaves carried her hot month of February into March as she blasted four home runs on the week. Reaves collected 11 RBI and is second in the Gulf South Conference with 10 homers and is first in the GSC with 33 RBI. Against Delta State,
Bentlee Stiner had two homers and six RBI in the series.
Lily Stone came through multiple times for the Falcons as she had six hits on the weekend including a game where she went 4-for-4 with three doubles in game two against the Lady Statesman.
Maddie Taylor extends her streak of games played with a run scored to six games as she came across to score in every game last week.
As a team, Montevallo is tied for fourth with a .316 average and fifth with 26 total home runs in the conference. The Falcons stole six bases this weekend and they are now 37-43 on the season. UM is second in the Gulf South with 34 doubles in the year.
Pitching
Taylor Lloyd picked up two wins against Delta State as she appeared in every game in the three-game series. Lloyd now has six wins which is tied for second in the conference. The Falcons pitching staff has allowed the fourth lowest walks in the GSC with 57 total and they strike out opposing batters at the fifth best rate as they have 102 strikeouts on the season. UM pitching has allowed the third lowest amount of doubles in the conference with only 17 on the season.
Scouting West Georgia
The Wolves come into this weekend 10-11 overall and 4-5 in GSC play. UWG played against Lee in their last conference series and was able to salvage the final game of the three-game series after dropping the first two. They split their midweek double-header against Young Harris as they lost the first game 12-4 but they bounced back to take the nightcap 7-6.
Blaire Bizette has had a hot first month of the season as she is eight in the GSC with a .462 batting average while she leads UWG with five home runs and 27 RBI. Bizette is currently on an 11-game hit streak and she has scored a run in 10 of her last 11 games. She also has 13 RBI in her last seven games. Rylee Green is batting .395 on the season, has a four-game hit streak with five hits out of 12 at bats.
West Georgia is great on the base paths as Megan Waites leads UWG with nine stolen bases out of 10 attempts. Madison Vandergriff is a perfect 4-for-4 on the year. The Wolves are batting .308 on the season, have the fifth most RBI as a team in the GSC with 125, have drawn the second most walks in the conference with 75 and have struck out the second least amount of time at 62.
In the circle, West Georgia allows 4.8 runs per game while they average four strikeouts a game. Cali Hardison has the most innings pitched for the Wolves with 35.2 while she has 28 strikeouts (most on UWG) and 23 free passes. As a team, West Georgia has struck out the third fewest batters this year with 75 and they have walked the most batters in the conference at 100.
Montevallo is 13-3 all-time against West Georgia while the Falcons have taken the last four meetings between the two. UM is 4-2 at home against the Wolves and they were 2-1 against UWG in last season series.
