Falcons Face West Florida in Pivotal Three-Game GSC Series

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team is ready for a pivotal three-game set with the West Florida Argonauts on Friday, Apr. 12 and Saturday, Apr. 13 at Orr Park.
 
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off a sweep of Shorter where they averaged 12 runs a game while they shut out the Hawks twice. Bentlee Stiner was unstoppable as she went 8-for-10 including a 4-for-4 game, five runs scored, a double, two homers and nine RBI. Taylor Lloyd was fantastic as she threw 11.1 innings and only allowed five hits, three walks and no runs while she struck out 11.

Hitting
Madison Fargo found her power stroke against Shorter as she blasted her first home runs of the season. In game one of the series, Fargo hit her first long ball of the season with a grand slam. She would follow up her next at bat with a double for her first multi-extra base hit game of her career. The freshman from Wellington, Fla. would come back the next day and hit her second bomb of the season with a total of six RBI for the weekend.
 
Molly Pendley smacked homers in all three games last weekend against the Hawks. Pendley now has five home runs in her last 10 games played and has drove home 10 RBI in that stretch. She now has the fourth highest OPS on the team at .918. Pendley and Maddie Taylor come into this weekend with four game hitting streaks as Taylor picked up four hits over the weekend and scored four runs against the Hawks.
 
With two hit games in each game against Shorter, Ariana Pinder currently owns a 10-game hit streak, the longest by a Falcon this season and the sixth longest in program history. Pinder on the weekend went 6-for-11 with one homer, three RBI and four runs scored.
 
Pitching
Taylor Lloyd turned in her most dominant series in the circle against the Hawks, delivering two complete game shutouts. Lloyd also notched her third career save as she moves into a tie for third in career saves. Lloyd is first in the GSC with 21 games started, third with 120.2 innings pitched, sixth with 111 strikeouts and sixth with 12 wins on the season.
 
The Falcon staff comes in the with sixth lowest ERA at 4.79 and have allowed the sixth lowest amount of earned runs in the conference. As a team, they have the sixth most strikeouts in a season in program history (178) and have the fourth lowest opposing batting average in program history (.299).
 
Scouting West Florida
The Argonauts come into the weekend ahead of the Falcons as they are fourth in the GSC standings with a 15-6 conference record. UWF is one of the hottest teams in the country as they are winners of their last 14 games but are 12-9 away from Pensacola this season. West Florida won both ends of a double-header against Spring Hill 6-2 and 8-3 on Tuesday, Apr. 9. In their most recent GSC series, they swept Union at home. Union has one of the top pitching staffs in the country but the Argonauts were able to average 8 runs a game.
 
Gianna Guerriero leads the Argonauts at the plate with a .447 average (sixth highest in the conference) and she comes in with an eight-game hitting streak. Jessie Baughan has the most homers on UWF with 16 and she's knocked in 50 RBI. Baughan has a homer in her last three games. As a team, they are batting .333 with the second most home runs in the GSC with 73. The Argonauts have stolen the fourth fewest number of bags this this in the GSC (50).
 
West Florida relies on Montana Young and Hannah Harper in the circle the most this season. Young and Harper post ERA's of 3.83 and 3.90 respectively. Harper is second in the GSC with 127.1 innings pitched and Young is fourth in the conference with 113.1. Both arms have combined for 157 strikeouts, however, they both are inside the top six in the GSC in walks allowed.
 
The Falcons are 9-13 against West Florida in their all-time series but are an even 3-3 in their last six matchups. Montevallo is 5-5 at home against UWF and the last time they matched up in Montevallo, Ala. the Falcons blanked West Florida 6-0.
