Hitting
The Falcon offense got back on track as they averaged eight runs a game against Valdosta State last weekend.
Sydnee Reaves continues to set records this season as she hit for the third cycle in program history in the victory against Valdosta State on Saturday. In the game, Reaves set a single-game record of eight RBI as she is now fourth in the Gulf South Conference with 49 RBI on the season. With her 13
th homer of the season, she is fourth in the GSC in home runs.
Lily Stone had a hit in each game against VSU and she scored three runs on the weekend. The sophomore from Tuscaloosa, Ala. is five RBI away from setting a career-high for RBI in a season. Stone was fantastic in the outfield with multiple diving catches to steal numerous hits away from the Blazers.
Ariana Pinder had a great week setting the table for the Falcons in the lead off spot as she had two hits in all three games this weekend. Pinder totaled six hits, six RBI, five runs scored, a double and a homer. Pinder and
Bentlee Stiner will carry five-game hit streaks going into the week as Stiner has a hit in all three games against Valdosta State.
As a team, UM is just hitting under .300 at .298 with 265 hits which includes 47 doubles, 12 triples (top mark in the GSC), 36 home runs and 176 RBI. The team is 19 homers away from breaking the team single-season home run record that they set last season.
Pitching
Taylor Lloyd reached the 100-inning plateau in the finale against Valdosta State. Lloyd is one of five pitchers in program history to toss 100 innings in a season. She threw her 10
th career complete game which is third in program history and she recorded her fourth career shutout which is the second most in a career at Montevallo. Lloyd is approaching her first 100-strikeout season of her career and is third in UM history with 154 total strikeouts.
As a team, the pitching staff has an ERA of 4.82, 10 complete games and a strikeout to walk ratio of 156:100.
Scouting Columbus State
The Cougars come into Wednesday's midweek with a record of 23-15 overall and a 14-4 record inside the Peach Belt Conference. Their most recent series, Columbus State dropped two out of three games to Flagler College. CSU lost 3-6 and 1-8 in the first two games of the series but like the Falcons, won the finale.
Brooke Miller leads Columbus State and the PBC with 17 home runs. She is the only player in the conference with over 10 homers and Miller leads the PBC with 60 RBI, an OPS of 1.365, a slugging percentage of .898 and 97 total bases. Laura Harris has the highest batting average for the Cougars at .385 and she has contributed 30 RBI. On the base paths, CSU is 65-69 and Laura Harris, Caitlyn Canady and Katelyn Cooper all have over 12 successful stolen base attempts.
In the circle, Julianna Franklin has an ERA of 4.20, has won nine games and has racked up 50 strikeouts on the season. Haylee Folds leads CSU with 63 strikeouts and is 12
th in the PBC in that statistic. The Cougar pitching staff has walked the most batters in the conference with 134 free passes this season.
The Falcons are 6-9 against Columbus State all-time and are 2-5 against CSU when on the road. Last season, Columbus State and Montevallo matched up three times with the Cougars winning two out of the three games played. In the last 10 meeting against each other, they are an even 5-5 against one another.
