FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Montevallo wrestling team earned a pair of Conference Carolinas dual victories on Tuesday night, powering past Mount Olive 29-20 behind five bonus-point wins before cruising to a dominant 42-11 result against Ferrum.
"I'm extremely proud of how our guys fought and wrestled today," said Falcon head coach Daniel Ownbey. "We beat a good Mount Olive team and beat a few guys ranked ahead of us in the region. We are building something special here at Montevallo. This is a place to come and win championships."
Dual One: Mount Olive (W, 29-20)
The Falcons set the tone early with back-to-back falls at 125 and 133. Cole Hunt opened the night with a pin at 4:34 over Christian Luker, and Noah Smith followed with another pin at 3:48 to build an early 12-0 advantage.
After Mount Olive got on the board at 141, No. 15 Max Stedeford quickly shifted momentum back to Montevallo with a fall at 2:41 in the 149-pound bout. At 157, Carson Freeman delivered one of the Falcons' most dominant efforts of the night, rolling to a 20-5 technical fall that extended the lead to 23-3.
UMO cut into the margin with a major decision at 165, but Aiden Knight answered with Montevallo's fourth pin of the dual, finishing his 174-pound match at 5:27 to make it 29-7 and effectively seal the victory.
The Trojans claimed the final three bouts, but the Falcons' early surge held strong as Montevallo secured the 29-20 win.
Dual Two: Ferrum (W, 42-11)
Montevallo continued its momentum in the second dual of the night, opening with seven straight victories. At 125, Cole Hunt set the tone again with a pin in just 1:30 over Riley Conway. Noah Smith followed with a 24-8 technical fall over Josiah Canales at 133, and Kaden Brown added another tech fall at 141 against Braden Crawford.
Stedeford kept the Falcons rolling at 149, earning a 19-4 technical fall over Cameron Curva to push the lead to 21-0. At 157, Freeman added an 8-2 decision over Andres Cortes before Brock Fields picked up a fall at 165, pinning Robert Owens Jr. in 4:40. Knight then added his second pin of the night at 174, pinning Genowa Lane in just 48 seconds to make it 36-0.
Ferrum broke through with a wins at 184 and 197. Montevallo closed the dual in emphatic fashion, however, as Willie Cox earned a first-period pin over Braeden Fluke at 285 to cap the 42-11 victory.
