BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference has announced its Men's Basketball Weekly Awards with Montevallo duo
Derek Moore and
Devon McKinnon named Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

In Montevallo's 2-0 week at the end of non-conference play, Moore led the Falcons' offense with 22.5 points per game on an 81.8-percent mark from the field and an 87.5-percent clip from the free throw line. In two games, Moore averaged 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.0 assists in an average of 28.4 minutes per game. Against Fisk, Moore tallied 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting while adding 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. The Birmingham, Ala. native added a 19-point performance on 8-for-9 shooting with a season-high seven steals, five assists and five rebounds in Montevallo's win over Spring Hill.
McKinnon averaged 20.0 points per game on a 48.0-percent shooting mark, and a perfect 8-for-8 mark while adding an average of 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game. In a win over Fisk, the Freshman tied a career-high with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting while adding three boards, four assists, and three steals. The freshman followed up with an 18-point outing against Spring Hill on 5-of-11 shooting and 6-for-6 from the stripe while picking up four assists and two steals.
Moore and McKinnon will join the Falcons as they open conference play on Thursday, Dec. 4 with a trip to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on Lee at 6:30 p.m.
