PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Montevallo softball team split the opening day of conference play with West Florida, falling in game one 2-1, before picking up a 5-3 win in game two.
GAME ONE
Taylor Lloyd was solid in the circle, pitching her second complete game of the season. The junior allowed two runs, five hits, two walks, and struck out three in six innings of work.
Montevallo looked to strike early, as the Falcons put two runners on base. A popup ended the inning, keeping the Falcons off the board.
West Florida put a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the second inning. A single from UWF ended up scoring the runner to give the Argos an early 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons finally put a runner in scoring position again in the top of the sixth, after a pair of singles from
Ariana Pinder and
Bentlee Stiner.
Kiley Christopher hit an RBI-single down the left line to score Pinder and tie the game, 1-1.
The Argos responded in the bottom of the sixth, plating a run of its own to regain the lead, 2-1.
Montevallo looked to rally in the top of the seventh, putting a runner in scoring position, as
Emma Faulk reached on an error. The Falcons were unable to find anything else in the inning, as UWF took home the 2-1 victory in game one.

GAME TWO
Rachel Whiddon was credited with the win, as she built a solid performance in the circle, allowing no earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Whiddon allowed one unearned run, five hits, and one walk, while picking up one strikeout.
West Florida struck first early once again, plating a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage, but the Falcons responded in the top of the second.
Bentlee Stiner opened the second inning with a leadoff walk and
Kiley Christopher followed that up with a single.
Kennedy Hussey hit an RBI-double up the middle to score Stiner and tie the game, 1-1. The Falcons were not done, as
Becca Benton hit an RBI-double to score Hussey, putting the Falcons ahead 2-1.
West Florida responded in the bottom of the second inning, with a run to tie the game, 2-2.
The Argos added another run in the bottom of the third to regain the lead, 3-2.
Neither team was able to find scoring through the next few innings, as the Argos held the 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning.
The Falcons started the seventh inning strong, as
Molly Pendley lead off the inning with a single and
Madison Fargo reached on a fielder's choice.
Becca Benton reached on an error, which scored
Molly Pendley to tie the game, 3-3.
The Falcons were not done, as
Kendall Channell reached on an error which scored Fargo and Benton, putting Montevallo ahead, 5-3, in the top of the seventh.
The Argos earned a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but
Rachel Whiddon induced a popup and line out to secure the 5-3 victory for Montevallo.
