Falcons Split Doubleheader with (RV) Mississippi College

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team split a Friday doubleheader with (RV) Mississippi College, falling in game one 5-0, before bouncing back with an 8-7 victory in the second game.

GAME ONE
The Choctaws outhit the Falcons 13-2 in game one, leading to a 5-0 victory. Despite the lost, Taylor Lloyd racked up six strikeouts in six innings pitched. Lloyd also pitched four consecutive shutout innings in the contest. Emma Hawkins and Becca Benton earned the lone hits for the Falcons in the first game.

GAME NOTES
GAME TWO
Addy Tillery was solid in the circle, picking up her first collegiate win. Tillery pitched 2.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. Taylor Lloyd pitched the final inning and picked up a pair of strikeouts en route to her first save of the season.

Montevallo struck first in game two, as Ariana Pinder and Emma Hawkins opened the game with back-to-back singles. Pinder ended up scoring on an error and a Becca Benton RBI-double scored Hawkins to put the Falcons up 2-0 in the first inning.

MC responded in the top of the second with two runs of its own to tie the game, 2-2.

After a pair of strikeouts opened the bottom of the second, Skylar Johnson singled to left field. Molly Pendley doubled to left center to score Johnson and put the Falcons back in front, 3-2. The Falcons were not done yet, as Emma Hawkins provided a double up the middle to score Pendley and put Montevallo ahead 4-2.

The Choctaws found life in the top of the fourth inning, plating five runs to take a three run advantage, 7-4.

Montevallo looked to chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the inning, as Johnson started things off with a one-out triple down the right field line. An RBI-ground out from Pendley scored Johnson, cutting the deficit to 7-5 in the bottom of the fourth.

Montevallo added one more run in the bottom of the fifth, as Riley Tyree hit a solo home run to cut the MC advantage to one run, 7-6.

The Falcons erased the MC lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Pendley doubled and ultimately scored on an error in the next at-bat, tying the game, 7-7. Tyree followed that up with an RBI-single to score Emma Hawkins, giving Montevallo its first lead since the third inning, 8-7.

The Choctaws looked to rally in the top of the seventh, opening the inning with a leadoff single. Taylor Lloyd shut the door, striking out two of the last three batters to secure the 8-7 victory for Montevallo.
