ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team played its fifth and final game of the Chillout on Sunday, as the Falcons fell to Lincoln Memorial 4-1 at Sand Mountain Park.
Kinsley Byrd and
Rachel Whiddon split time in the circle for the Falcons against the Railsplitters. Byrd got the start and allowed one hit, two walks, and one strikeout in three innings pitched. Whiddon pitched the remaining four innings, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned), while earning four strikeouts.
Montevallo put two runners on base for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning, as
Ariana Pinder and
Riley Tyree earned back-to-back singles. The Falcons were unable to push any runs across, keeping the game scoreless at the end of four innings.
The Railsplitters responded in the next inning, putting a runner in scoring position in the top of the fifth. An RBI-single brought the runner home and Lincoln Memorial took a 1-0 lead.
Montevallo looked to respond as,
Kennedy Hussey walked and ultimately reached third base on an error.
Madison Fargo hit a sac-fly to bring Hussey home and tie the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the fifth.
The Railsplitters found late game momentum, scoring three runs through the next two innings to take a, 4-1, advantage, as the Falcons needed three runs to keep the game going in the bottom of the seventh.
Kiley Christopher started things off with a single to right field, but the Falcons were unable to find anything else, as LMU took home the 4-1 victory.
