Brown, Chisolm Clinch Berths to NCAA National Tournament

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo wrestling team had five placers at the NCAA Super Regional II tournament including two national qualifiers on Saturday, Mar. 1.
 
Colt Brown and Jake Chisolm punched their tickets to nationals for finishing inside the top three for each respective weight classes. The Falcons earned five placers across the 10 different weight class brackets.
 
Colt Brown, who will be the program's first 125 to make it to nationals, went 2-1 on his way to a second-place finish. He won his first bout of the day with his 10th decision victory this season over King's Tyson Upchurch. Brown would follow that up with an 11-3 decision over Coker's Corey Gallivan to officially earned a birth to the national championships.
 
Jake Chisolm will represent the purple and gold as the program's first 165 to go to the national tournament. Chisolm started the day with his seventh tech fall of the season, 20-2, over Newberry's Nick Humphrys. He won over Joe Bertrand of King in an 8-3 decision. Chisolm fought his way through the consolation bracket as he defeated Christian Arrington with his fastest fall of the season at 1:40. To end the afternoon, he picked up his final victory of the day in an exciting 14-13 decision over UNC Pembroke's Will Lowery.

Individual Highlights
  • Colt Brown picked up two wins and earned his spot in the 2025 NCAA National Championships. Brown is now 18-6 including 11-1 in decisions.
  • Nick Dempsey placed sixth for the Falcons in the 149-weight class. Dempsey won three times including two falls and a major decision. He is now 21-17 with six falls.
  • Carson Freeman placed fourth for Montevallo in the 157-weight class. Freeman picked up an 11-1 major decision over William Nix, a five-minute fall over Malachi Thomas, a 13-3 major decision over Noah Korenoski and a well-fought 10-2 major decision over No. 3 Keegan Roberson. Freeman is now 28-14 on the season with six major decisions and seven pins.
  • Jake Chisolm will join Colt Brown at nationals as Chisolm won four times including two decisions, a tech fall and a pin. Chisolm now has an even 20 wins in the 2024-25 season.
  • Willie Cox placed fifth in the 285-weight class. Cox picked up four wins including two decisions, a major decision and a forfeit. He finishes the season with 19 wins.
