VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Montevallo softball team fell in a tight contest to Valdosta State. 5-4, to close the series on Sunday.
Taylor Lloyd earned the start in the circle and racked up seven strikeouts in six innings pitched.
The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage through the first five innings, before Montevallo got on the board in the top of the sixth.
Skylar Johnson doubled down the left field line to score
Molly Pendley, and
Kiley Christopher hit a sac-fly to score
Kennedy Hussey, cutting the deficit to one run, 3-2.
The Blazers responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, extending the lead to, 4-2.
Montevallo looked to rally in the top of the seventh, needing two runs to extend the game. After
Becca Benton earned a two-out walk,
Molly Pendley followed that up with a two-run home run to tie the game, 4-4.
The Blazers ultimately scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 5-4 victory.
