Lloyd’s Complete Game One-Hit Shutout Secures Series Sweep over CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn.Taylor Lloyd's complete game one-hit shutout capped off a strong weekend, as Montevallo defeated Christian Brothers 6-3 and 2-0 to capture the season sweep over the Lady Bucs. The Falcons have won three consecutive Gulf South Conference series and eight consecutive conference games.

GAME ONE
Rachel Whiddon and Berkley Mooney split time in the circle in game one. Mooney was solid in relief, allowing no runs and racking up three strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

The Falcons struck first, as Bentlee Stiner and Riley Tyree scored on throwing miscues by the Lady Bucs, putting Montevallo ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

Montevallo added to its lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. Ariana Pinder hit an RBI-double to score Molly Pendley, and Madison Fargo followed that up with an RBI-groundout to score Becca Benton. Emma Hawkins ended the top half of the inning with an RBI-single, putting the Falcons ahead 5-0.

The Lady Bucs responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs to cut the Montevallo lead to 5-3.

Both teams were held scoreless through the next three innings, as the Falcons took the two-run lead into the seventh inning.

Montevallo looked to add insurance in the top of the seventh, as Skylar Johnson got things started with a leadoff walk. After a Kennedy Hussey single advanced Johnson to third, she ultimately stole home on the next at-bat to give the Falcons a 6-3 advantage.

Berkley Mooney kept the Lady Bucs scoreless for the fourth inning in a row to preserve the 6-3 victory and overall series win.
