MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team opened its final home series of the year strong, defeating Union 5-2 on Thursday evening.

Taylor Lloyd earned the start in the circle and pitched her 13^th complete game of the season. The junior allowed two runs and racked up eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Montevallo struck first in the bottom of the first inning, as Molly Pendley opened her senior day with a solo home run to put the Falcons ahead, 1-0.

Union got on the board in the top of the third, plating a run to tie the game, 1-1.

Montevallo responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs to regain the lead. Pendley earned her second RBI of the day, as an RBI-single brought home Riley Tyree. Becca Benton followed that up with an RBI-single of her own to score Pendley, putting the Falcons ahead, 3-1.

The Lady Bulldogs struck again in the top of the fifth, scoring a run to cut the deficit to, 3-2.

The Falcons looked to respond once again as Bentlee Stiner and Riley Tyree opened the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back singles. Ariana Pinder provided a two RBI-double to score Tyree and Pendley who reached on a fielder's choice, extending the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

Taylor Lloyd shut the Lady Bulldogs down in the last two innings to secure the 5-2 win over Union in the series opener.
