MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team captured a pair of wins over Union on Friday to secure UM's fourth consecutive series win and third consecutive sweep.
GAME ONE
Rachel Whiddon and
Kinsley Byrd combined to earn the shutout in the circle in game one. Whiddon started the game and allowed no runs, two hits and racked up a pair of strikeouts in four innings of work. Byrd pitched the final three innings, allowing no runs, two hits and one strikeout.
Montevallo's lone runs came in the bottom of the second inning.
Madison Fargo earned a one-out single and
Kiley Christopher followed that up with her first home run of the season to put the Falcons up 2-0. The Falcons were not done yet, as
Riley Tyree hit an RBI-single later in the inning to score
Emma Hawkins, giving the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.
The Lady Bulldogs threatened in the top of the third, loading the bases with one out. The Falcons recorded a double play to end the inning and keep Union off the board.
Base runners were scarce throughout the rest of the game, as
Kinsley Byrd closed the door for Montevallo in the circle, securing the 3-0 win and the overall series victory for the Falcons.

GAME TWO
Taylor Lloyd earned her 14
th win of the season and pitched her 14
th complete game. The junior allowed one run, three hits and racked up six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Union got on the board first, plating a run in the top of the third inning to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Montevallo looked to respond in the bottom of the third, as
Madison Fargo hit a leadoff-single and later advanced to third after a pair of sacrifice-groundouts.
Bentlee Stiner hit an RBI-single to bring Fargo home and tie the game, 1-1. After a
Riley Tyree double,
Molly Pendley hit a single to score Stiner and put the Falcons ahead 2-1. A successful double steal attempt allowed Tyree to score, putting the Falcons ahead 3-1.
Both teams were kept quiet through the next few innings, until Montevallo threatened in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with no outs.
Skylar Johnson hit an RBI-groundout to score
Molly Pendley, putting the Falcons ahead, 4-1.
Madison Fargo followed that up with a two run-double to score
Ariana Pinder and
Ellie Derrick, extending the lead to 6-1.
Taylor Lloyd closed the door in the top of the seventh, securing the 6-1 victory and series sweep.
