Lloyd’s Complete Game Shutout Propels Montevallo to 1-0 Victory over Delta State

MONTEVALLO, Ala.Taylor Lloyd pitched her second complete game shutout of the season on Friday, leading Montevallo to a 1-0 victory over Delta State to open the series.

Lloyd was phenomenal in the circle, allowing no runs, four hits, and no free passes, while striking out five. The junior secured her ninth win of the season.

Both teams started slow, as the first hit of the game came in the bottom of the third inning. Hawkins earned the first hit and got all the way to third, but a groundout ultimately ended the inning.

Delta State responded with its first two hits of the game in the top of the fourth, but a Lloyd strikeout would end the threat.

The Falcons added a pair of hits in the bottom half of the fourth, as Becca Benton and Molly Pendley earned back-to-back singles.

Montevallo finally got on the board, plating the lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Emma Hawkins got things started with a leadoff single and Riley Tyree hit an RBI-single to bring her home putting the Falcons ahead 1-0.

Lloyd sat down all six Lady Statesmen that came up to the plate through the next two innings to seal the deal, as Montevallo captured the 1-0 victory over Delta State.
