MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team notched a pair of victories on Saturday, to secure the series sweep over Delta State.
GAME ONE
Four Falcons saw time in the circle in the first game of the day.
Rachel Whiddon earned the start and allowed no runs in three innings pitched. Whiddon was credited with her fourth win of the season.
Kinsley Byrd pitched the final 1.1 innings to secure her second save.
Montevallo struck first in the bottom of the second, as
Emma Hawkins walked with the bases loaded to score
Ariana Pinder and put the Falcons on the board. The Falcons were not done yet, as
Riley Tyree added a two-RBI single to put Montevallo ahead 3-0.
The Falcons added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, as
Madison Fargo hit a solo shot to extend the lead to 4-0. Tyree added another RBI later in the inning, with a single up the middle to score
Bentlee Stiner, putting the Falcons ahead 5-0.
The Lady Statesmen fought back, scoring four runs in the next two innings to trim the deficit to one run, 5-4, in the top of the sixth.
Montevallo responded in the bottom half of the sixth, as
Molly Pendley hit an RBI-single to score Hawkins. The Falcons were not done yet, as Pinder hit an RBI-single to extend the lead to 7-4.
After a leadoff single in the top of the seventh,
Kinsley Byrd recorded the final three outs to secure the 7-4 win and series victory for the Falcons.

GAME TWO
Taylor Lloyd pitched her second complete game of the weekend and earned her tenth win of the season. Lloyd pitched five innings, allowing only one run, three hits, and racking up six strikeouts.
Montevallo struck first once again, as
Molly Pendley hit an RBI-single to score
Bentlee Stiner in the bottom of the first.
Riley Tyree later scored on an error and Pendley scored on a wild pitch to put the Falcons ahead 3-0.
Montevallo added to its lead in the bottom of the third, as
Madison Fargo doubled to left center to score
Skylar Johnson and
Ariana Pinder.
Bentlee Stiner earned an RBI-walk and
Riley Tyree hit a sac-fly later in the inning to extend the lead to 7-0.
Montevallo continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Becca Benton hit a leadoff solo home run and
Emma Hawkins reached on a fielder's choice later in the inning to score
Skylar Johnson, extending the lead to 9-0.
The Lady Statesmen plated a run in the top of the fifth, but
Taylor Lloyd recorded the last three outs to secure the 9-1 run rule victory.
