LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Becca Benton's strong week propelled her to earn national honors, being named Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week. Benton is the second player in program history to earn NFCA Player of the Week honors.
The Hayden, Ala., native picks up national recognition after being named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week earlier today.
Benton had a strong week, posting a .647 batting average and 1.765 slugging percentage through six games. The senior totaled 11 hits, 16 RBIs, six home runs, and eight runs scored. Benton had four multi-hit games and two multi-home run games.
The senior opened the week, going 4-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBIs in Montevallo's midweek double header sweep over Miles.
Benton closed the weekend, with four solid contests to help Montevallo finish 4-0 in the Cougar-Hurricane Classic. Her best performance came against Converse, where she went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. She went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs against Mars Hill.
Benton has helped Montevallo Softball make history with its best start in program history (11-1) and first ever national ranking (No. 25). The Falcons open GSC play this weekend with a road series at Mississippi College.
