MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 25 Montevallo softball team is set to open Gulf South Conference play this week with a road series at Mississippi College.
Montevallo enters the week with an 11-1 overall record, after going 6-0 last week with a doubleheader sweep over Miles and a 4-0 mark in the Cougar-Hurricane Classic. Montevallo's four wins in Columbus came against Eckerd (7-2), Mars Hill (8-0), Converse (13-6), and Mount Olive (6-0).
Becca Benton led the way for the Falcons last week, totaling 11 hits, 16 RBIs, six home runs, and eight runs scored leading her to being named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week and GSC Player of the Week. The Falcons swept the GSC weekly awards, as Taylor Lloyd was named Pitcher of the Week and Taylor Rogers picked up Freshman of the Week honors.
On the season, Ariana Pinder leads the team in batting average (.469) and Bentlee Stiner leads the team in hits (17), while Benton holds team leads in home runs (seven) and slugging percentage (1.121). Rogers holds a team leading-ten stolen bases. In the circle, Lloyd is 7-0 on the season with a 1.26 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 44.1 innings pitched. After picking up three wins last week, she is now the Montevallo All-Time Career Wins leader.
Mississippi College enters the week with a 5-6-1 record. The Choctaws last saw action in the Eagle Classic, where MC went 2-3-1. Shelby Samples leads the way at the plate with a .424 batting average, while Ellie Fryar holds team leads in hits (16), RBIs (ten), and home runs (four). Camryn Bailey (4-2) leads the way in the circle with a 3.38 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of action.
