MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo throwers and jumpers highlighted a solid day one of the Falcon Classic and Multi on Friday.
Christopher Johnson led the way for Montevallo with the lone first place finish of the day in the Discus. After recording the top discus throw in the nation last week and setting a new school record (54.32m), Johnson surpassed that with a throw of 55.24m on Friday. Ethan Fox placed right behind Johnson in the Discus, earning a podium finish by placing second with a throw of 46.84m. Bradley Willette placed fourth with a distance of 45.10m.
Zane Weeks also earned a podium finish, placing second in the Javelin with a distance of 59.33m. Justin Sumlin placed sixth with a throw of 46.63m.
Jeremiah Fails led the way in the Long Jump with a distance of 7.06m. Marquis Trainer placed sixth with a jump of 6.79m and Alex Malone placed seventh with a jump of 6.76m.
Katie Wilkerson led the way on the women's side with a pair of podium finishes. The sophomore placed second in the Discus (41.36m) and third in the Javelin (38.79m). Makala Sims also recorded a podium finish, placing second in the Javelin with a throw of 38.79m. Three other Falcons earned top-seven finishes in the Javelin including Katlynn Brothers (fourth – 36.45m), Elizabeth Hayhurst (fifth – 35.97m), and Macey Denton (seventh – 35.18m).
Khila Corrothers led the way for the women in the Long Jump, placing sixth with a distance of 5.47m. Makayla Amador finished right behind her, placing seventh with a jump of 5.41m.
Montevallo will close the home meet on Saturday, with action set to start at 8:00 a.m. CST.
