Six Home Runs Lead No. 20 Falcons to Doubleheader Sweep over Columbus State

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The No. 20 Montevallo softball team had a solid day at the plate, as six home runs highlighted a pair of wins over Columbus State on Tuesday.

GAME ONE

Taylor Lloyd had a solid outing in the circle, allowing no earned runs and striking out five in seven innings of work. The senior earned her 18th win, while pitching her 16th complete game of the season.

Montevallo looked to strike first in the top of the third inning, as Taylor Rogers opened things with a leadoff single and ultimately reached third base after a stolen base and sac-bunt. Ariana Pinder followed that up with a successful RBI sac-bunt to score Rogers and put the Falcons on the board.

Montevallo continued to push in the top of the fourth, as Kiley Christopher and Lillie Piersol recorded back-to-back RBI fielder's choices to extend the Montevallo lead to 3-0. Pinder recorded her second RBI of the game, drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Piersol, stretching the lead to 4-0.

The Falcons added to its lead in the top of the sixth, as Rogers and Pinder both hit solo home runs, stretching the lead to 6-0.

The Cougars rallied late, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Falcons held on to secure the, 6-1, victory in game one.

GAME TWO

Kinsley Byrd earned the start in the circle and was solid through four innings, allowing no runs and three hits to earn her fifth win of the year. Mya Young and Berkley Mooney combined to pitch the final three innings.

The Falcons struck first once again, as Riley Tyree singled and Emma Faulk followed that up with a home run to put Montevallo ahead 2-0, in the top of the second inning.

Both teams were scoreless through the next two innings, before Faulk stepped up to the plate and hit her second home run of the game in the top of the fifth, extending the Montevallo lead to, 3-0. The Cougars responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating a pair of runs to cut the Falcon lead to one run, 3-2.

Montevallo fielded a response of its own in the top of the sixth, as Becca Benton opened the inning with her 12th homer of the season. Montevallo continued to push, as Rogers added a two-run double to extend the lead to 6-2.

Kiley Christopher hit the sixth Montevallo home run of the day in the top of the seventh to extend the Falcon lead to 7-2.

The Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Berkley Mooney shut the door to secure the Montevallo, 7-3, victory.
