BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference released its last set of outdoor track and field weekly awards on Wednesday, as Christopher Johnson was named Field Athlete of the Week and Jeremiah Fails was named Track Athlete of the Week.
Christopher Johnson had a strong weekend at the UAH Rocket City Invitational, breaking a pair of school records and setting a provisional mark. Johnson earned a first-place finish in the Discus with a new school record throw and provisional mark of 56.43m. The graduate student placed fourth in the Hammer with a school record throw of 51.81m and fourth in the Shot Put with a distance of 15.16m. Johnson ranks first in the GSC in Discus, while ranking fourth in Hammer.
Jeremiah Fails had a solid weekend at the UAH Rocket City Invitational, posting a school record and provisional standard in the 100m. Fails finished with a time of 10.32 to secure a first-place finish in the meet. Fails recorded a time of 10.92 in the preliminary rounds, while also contributing to times of 41.21 in the 4x100m Relay and 3:17.47 in the 4x400m Relay. Fails now ranks second in the GSC in the 100m.
Montevallo Track and Field returns to action next week, as the Falcons host the GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
