MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo
women's soccer team (3-4-1) got a late goal from senior Angela
Buonassisi (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) to
pick up a much needed 2-1 victory over the University of West
Georgia (2-7). The Falcons out-shot the Wolves 19-13 but tied UWG
with five shots on goal.
The Falcons struck first in the seventh minute as junior
Erin
Jollay (Richardson, Texas/Berkner) took a shot from
the left side of the 18-yard box and blasted it past the keeper.
Just a few minutes later the Wolves would tie up the game as
Margaret Sytsma knocked in a header off a corner kick from Jenna
Greathouse.
The two teams went scoreless for the rest of the first half and
entered halftime tied 1-1. The second half began much like the end
of the second with both teams going back and forth. The Falcons
finally broke through in the 78th minute as Buonassisi
headed in a free kick from Erin Duncan (Orlando,
Fla./Olympia).
Freshman Alyssa Maxwell
(Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) held the Wolves off
the board in the second half en route to a 2-1 victory. She made
four saves in the effort.
Freshman Jade Skillen (New
Market, England/West Suffolk) led the Falcons in shots
with seven while Buonassisi had four. Freshman Jenna Kuzemski
(Victoria, British Columbia/Belmont) and Jollay each had
three shots.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
as they host Armstrong Atlantic State University.
