MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of
Montevallo men's soccer (3-0-1, 0-0-1 PBC) defender
Mike Rinzema (Brampton, Ontario/Humber
College) has been named the Peach Belt Conference
Defensive Player of the Week. Rinzema helped the nationally-ranked
Falcons remain unbeaten as he scored a goal in the 2-2 tie with
Flagler College and helped gain a 2-0 shutout of Eckerd
College.
Rinzema had key moments on offense and defense for the Falcons,
scoring a goal against Flagler and shutting down Eckerd in a win.
He began with his first goal of the season in the 87th minute at
Flagler. He headed in a cross on a free kick that sent the game to
overtime, where he helped the Falcons defense keep the Saints off
the board. He carried that effort on to Eckerd, holding the Tritons
to two shots on goal. He leads a defense that is third in the PBC
with four goals allowed and tied for second with a 1.00 GAA.
Rinzema and the Falcons return to action this Wednesday as they
travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for an afternoon
contest.
