HARROGATE, Tenn. – After starting the season with two victories, the Montevallo men's soccer team had dropped two straight contests entering Wednesday afternoon's game with Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons were looking for their luck to turn around, be they would not be so fortunate. Lincoln Memorial added to the Montevallo woes by dealing them their third straight loss, defeating the Falcons 2-1.
The Rail Splitters struck first at 15:56 when Harry Solomons intercepted a pass and got it to Mario Pinto for the goal. Pinto's fifth goal of the season put the Falcons in an early 1-0 hole.
Montevallo would quickly respond with a goal from Alex Morton. In Morton's first start of the young season, he was able work his way into a gap in the defense to take a ball from Ram Gilad to even the score at 1-1. This score would hold up for the rest of the first half.
The first 45 minutes of the game were relatively even, with Lincoln Memorial recording 11 shots (five on goal) and Montevallo recording eight shots (four on goal).
Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Rail Splitters, and Pinto, were not done scoring. This time, Pinto recorded the assist, as he got the ball to Leonardo Da Silva in the box and Da Silva recorded his second goal of the season as the Rail Splitters took a 2-1 advantage at 67:31. This would end up being the final score.
On the day, Montevallo managed 18 shots, but were only able to put six of them on net. They also had six corner kicks. Montevallo looks to stop their three game skid on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they return home to take of UNC Pembroke in the first PBC match of the season.
