HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons and the Saints squared off in the series opener on Friday evening with the Saints coming away with a 4-1 victory.
Montevallo and Flagler held each other scoreless through three frames to start today's game. After the Saints held Montevallo scoreless in the top of the fourth inning, they scored the game's first run in the bottom of the inning. A fielding error by the Falcons gave Flagler a 1-0 lead.Â
Flagler scored again in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch that brought home their second run of the game as the Saints increased their lead to 2-0.
After being held scoreless for seven innings, the Falcons plated their first run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. Chad Wagner brought J.D. Roberts around to score on a single that got through the left side.
Flagler scored a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the 4-1 victory.
Jamison Roney (2-2) got the start on the mound for the Falcons in today's loss. Roney tossed 6 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven batters.
Colton Nussel entered the game in relief and faced only one batter in 1/3 of an inning and struck him out.
Drew Mullinax also pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief and faced one batter who grounded out.
Anthony Porter gave up two runs on one hit in his outing in tonight's game.
Jesse Ellefson was called on to close out the game and tossed 2/3 of an inning and faced four batters and gave up two hits.
