RESULTS
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's golf team finished in second place at the Jekyll-O-Lantern Intercollegiate tournament hosted by the Lincoln Memorial University at the Pine Lakes-Jekyll Island Golf Club on Oct. 28-29.
The Falcons posted a team score of 605 (304-301) for a two round total of 29-over par, seven strokes behind North Georgia, which won the team title after finishing at 22-over 598 (302-296).
Montevallo entered the final round tied for second with West Florida, two strokes behind North Georgia. However, the Falcons posted a team score of 301 on the final 18 holes - compared to West Florida's 312 - to solidify their hold on second place. Montevallo finished five shots ahead of West Georgia (309-301-610), which rounded out the top three in the 16-team field.
Freshman
Bernadita Villalba was the top finisher again for the Falcons, who finished fourth at 3-over 147. Villalba carded a 75 in the opening round and rebounded with an ever-par 72 to claim a top-5 finish.
All five of the Falcons' participants posted top-50 finishes in the 83-player field.
Senior
Alexis Berger joined Villalba in posting a top-10 finish. Berger finished in a tie for sixth at 5-over 149 after rounds of 75 and 74.
Junior
Alicia Easthope was next for the Falcons, rebounding from a T-43 performance at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial two weeks ago to post a top-20 finish for the Falcons. Easthope tied for 17th at 10-over 154 after rounds of 76 and 78 on the 6,043-yard, par-72 course.
Junior
Kayla Shelton finished tied for 26th overall after carding an 13-over 157 in the event. Shelton posted a 8-over 80 on day one, but bounced back on day two, carding a 77 to place just outside of the top 25.
Freshman
Macall Miller was the final player in Montevallo's lineup and she tied for 50th with a 36-hole total of 19-over 163. Miller posted an 6-over 78 in the opening round and an 83 on day two.
Montevallo's
Erica Fuerhelm also played in the tournament as an individual, tying for 69th at 25-over 169. Fuerhelm shot an 83 in the first round and an 86 on day two. That final round included a pair of birdies on the 352-yard, par-4 No. 10 and the 316-yard, par-4 No. 13.
The Falcons have now concluded the fall portion of their 2019-2020 schedule and are off until Feb. 16-18, when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. for the Lady Moc Classic, hosted by Florida Southern College at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club.
