HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UM cross country team finished the shortened 2020 season with a bang after they claimed third place at the Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday.  This marks the highest finish in conference for Montevallo since 2018 where they claimed fourth.

"We had a race plan going in and the guys pretty much stuck to it.  We had a few guys fall back a little bit but we had some other guys who stepped it up.  We talked about it all year and this was the race where it really mattered and we were able to put it together" said head coach Tommy Barksdale.

Joe Leventry led UM finishing in second place, while breaking his 8k record for the second time this year with a time of 24:20.89.  Leventry has had a phenomenal career and is now Montevallo's best ever GSC individual finisher in the school's history.  His performance garnered him a First Team All GSC selection.

"We thought we had a great chance and they showed up. It was a great performance from top to bottom.  Everybody gave their all for us to have a great team finish.  Looking forward to great things in the future."
