TROY, Ala - The Montevallo men's cross-country team competed in their first event of the season Saturday morning at Troy. The squad finished in 2
nd place with a total of 55 points in the 8k event.
The Falcons faced off against fellow GSC schools such as Alabama-Huntsville and Auburn-Montgomery along with the host school, Troy. UAH claimed first place with 15 points, the AUM Warhawks snagged third place with 68 points, and Troy finished fourth with an 111 point score.
"I thought it was a great start to the season, the guys performed everything the way we practiced and it showed" said head coach
Tommy Barksdale regarding the team's performance.
Joe Leventry registered a top ten finish for the men's team as he placed 6th with a time 26:17.65 to be the top scorer for the Falcon's in the 8k race.
Joseph Pitard and
Chaney Holder were the next two UM runners to cross the finish line as they placed 10th and 12th respectively. Pitard ran a time of 26:52.09 and Holder closely followed with a time of 27:19.53.
"Everyone is just really excited to get the season going. We still have a lot of work to be done before conference finals, but I am proud of how the guys performed today."
The Falcons will be back in action on Friday, October 16, where they take on the Blazer Classic at Veterans Park in Hoover, Alabama. UM has two remaining meets this season and the rest of the schedule can been seen at montevallofalcons.com.
