MURFREESBORO. - The Montevallo Falcons women's golf team claimed a tie for 2nd place at the Music City Invitational on Tuesday. The Falcons shot a consistent score on both days of 305, moving up the leader board two spots after finishing the opening round tied for 4th place.
Two UM players placed in the top 10, paced by freshman
Caterina Oliveri who finished 4th with a 3-over-par, 147. She began the day tied for 6th place. Meanwhile, junior teammate
Macall Miller woke up this morning tied for 11th place, but duplicated her first round score of 3-over-par 75 to finish at 6-over-par, 150 and a tie for 7th place.
Freshman
Meredith Bennett slipped two spots in the final round, but still finished in a tied for 20th place with five others. After a first round 77, Bennett settled for a final round 78 and a tournament score of 11-over-par 155.Â
Freshmen
Paulina Bermejo and
Anne-Linn Fjaervik both improved on the course on Tuesday. Bermejo had a final round 6-over-par 78 after shooting an 80 on day one, to finish the tournament with a 14-over-par 158. That score landed her in a tie for 33rd place. Fjaervik bettered her opening round score by three strokes (83-80) and went from 64th to a tie for 55th. She finished the tournament at +19, 163.
"Overall I think we did very good as a team finishing tied for second in a strong field.," said Miller. "Even though we didn't have our best days, we had a good comeback the second day to move up two places. We are a very young and still developing into our full potential so I have high hopes for our future."
The ladies of the nest have one more tournament on the fall schedule at the Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine, Fla. on Oct. 24-26.
Falcons Tied for Fourth After First 18 Holes
The Montevallo Falcons women's golf team finished the first round of the Music City Invitational tied for fourth place. The Falcons shot a team score of 305 to check into the clubhouse at 17-over-par, tied with Franklin Pierce University. The duo is five strokes off of the leader, Christian Brothers, who finished the round at 12-over-par (300). Northwood and Southern Indiana finished round one deadlocked in second place, four strokes ahead of the Falcons.
Caterina Oliveri topped the score sheet for UM, tied for sixth place after shooting a 1-over-par, 73.
Macall Miller followed with a 3-over-par 75, which had her tied for 11th. Meanwhile,
Meredith Bennett was tied for 18th with a 5-over-par 77,
Paulina Bermejo tied for 47th at 8-over-par 80 and
Anne-Linn Fjaervik rounded out the Falcons scoring at 11-over-par, 83. Fjaervik was tied for 64th.
