MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo women's lacrosse team will travel to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Wednesday for a GSC semifinal tournament game. Game time is 4:00 pm at UAH's Charger Park.
The Falcons lost to UAH in the regular season by a 16-3 score. "We did not perform well vs UAH in the regular season match-up," said Coach Piontek. "I know the team is looking forwarded to playing UAH again. The playoffs are always a second chance and we need to take advantage of this opportunity."
Montevallo enters the postseason with a record of 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the GSC slate. The Falcons are led by
Anja Kuys on offense with 44 points from 34 goals and 10 assists. UM has also received goal support from
Eleanor Bruce (18 goals),
Caleigh Spoon (16 goals),
Sadie Bopst (14 goals),
Rylee Horton (13 goals), and
Brianna Shepler (10 goals).
Janey Johnson leads the team with 18 assists.
Miranda Laird has played the majority of time in goal with a 9.71 goals against average and .472 save percentage.
The Chargers come into the game with an overall record of 10-3 and 3-1 in the GSC. UAH is led offensively this season by Hailey Gallant with a GSC-leading 93 points on 46 goals and 47 assists, followed by Cara Brown with a team-high 64 goals to go along with five assists for 69 points. Defensively, UAH has allowed 7.39 goals per game.
The winner of the UAH and Montevallo matchup will move on to the GSC Invitational Championship game on Saturday against the winner of #1 seed Lee vs #4 seed Young Harris. The GSC Championship game will be held at the highest-remaining seed.
Fans will be permitted to Charger Park for the semifinal matchup on Wednesday free of charge. Masks will be required when not social distancing.
