BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Montevallo men's basketball's
MJ Jones has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office, Tuesday, for the third consecutive week while
Braxton Bertolette has been named the GSC Player of the Week for the first time this season.
In a 19-point win over UAH, Jones scored 17 points and set career-highs with eight rebounds and nine assists – both were team-highs in the game. Earlier in the week Jones registered 13 points and two dimes against Miles. On the week, the Montevallo native averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game on 50 percent shooting from the field.
Bertolette set a school record with nine made three-pointers in a career-high 36-point outing against UAH on Saturday. The Fort Collins, Co. native finished 9-of-14 from three and 13-of-20 from the field in the win. On the week he averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field.
This is Jones' third-career Freshman of the Week honor and the first Player of the Week honor for Bertolette.
Montevallo will return will continue GSC action on Friday, Dec. 8, at Shorter.
