MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's cross country team garnered a fourth-place finish at the 2022 Gulf South Conference, while
Joe Leventry added a fourth-consecutive All-GSC performance.
"It was a solid day," said Head Coach
Tommy Barksdale. "We knew it was going to be a close race for fourth but the guys did their job. We are excited to see what we can put together in two weeks for the NCAA South Regional Championships."
Veteran runner
Joe Leventry led the pack for Montevallo with a ninth-place finish and a time of 24:11.40 that secured a 2022 First Team All-GSC award. Junior
Drew Roberts put together a strong race for the Falcons with a 25:38.30 mark for a 33rd-place finish.
Joseph Pitard and Owen Marquardt were the third and fourth for UM with times of 26:28.20 (47th) and 26:42.30 (52nd), respectively. Bill Archer rounded out the scoring for Montevallo with a time of 26:44.00.
The Falcons finished fourth in the overall standings, behind Lee, Mississippi College, and Alabama-Huntsville, with a total of 161 points.
Montevallo is set to appear in the 2022 NCAA South Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Lakeland, Fla. at Holloway Park.
