SEATTLE, Wa. – University of Montevallo men's cross country runner
Joe Leventry posted a school-record 56
th-place finish at the 2022 Div. II NCAA Cross Country National Championship on Friday, Dec. 2.
The graduate runner went out on a blistering pace moving all the way up to the 36
th position by the 3.8K split. Leventry came off his pace during the middle third of the race dropping back to 66
th at the four-mile mark. In the final 3,600 meters, the Hoover, Ala. native climbed ten positions to earn his final 56
th-place standing with a school record time of 30:47.5 in his second national title race. Leventry's 56
th-place finish is the highest by any Montevallo cross country runner in program-history.
"What a race! We had a game plan and Joe executed perfectly," said head coach
Tommy Barksdale. "Finishing 56th in the country solidified Joe as one of the best distance runners in D2! We couldn't be more excited for Joe. We are very proud of him and the way he puts everything out there. Now, we turn our focus to indoors and are looking to continue the progress! Joe had the highest finish ever by a Montevallo male or female at a cross country national championship."
Leventry will end his Montevallo cross country career with 18 top-30 finishes, 15 top-20 placements, 10 top-10 finishes and one event win at the 2021 Falcon Classic.
